Building on the success of Rapid Laser Patterning (RLP), Powerlase Photonics has adapted the thin film patterning technique to meet the requirements of solar cell manufacturers.
The technique involves edge deletion of the thin-film coating on solar panels. This crucial final step in the manufacturing process involves the ablative removal of a border of thin-film from the edge of the solar panel. This removal ensures that no conductive material remains between the panel surface and the metal casing used to frame solar cells.
Powerlase Photonics lasers are uniquely suited to the application. Using a fibre delivery system the laser beam emitted has a square, instead of round profile. Having a square beam shape allows thin-film removal to be completed with a single pulse, unlike with a round target area. This increases the speed of manufacture and streamlines the process.
Powerlase Photonics hase recently introduced a range of “Short Pulse Duration”; High Power DPSS lasers that enables high power with faster throughput, the AO4SP / AO8SP and AO10SP all offer fibre delivery.
